The Ins and Outs of Lube

The Ins and Outs of Lube

When the word lube is mentioned, most people don’t think of cars.

Lube is a must have for most sex sessions and to be honest, it’s not just something that people feel must use just because they are a bit dry down there. Lube can enhance sex and make it a lot more pleasurable for both partners and a lot of people love using lube during sex.

Something to know is that lubes aren’t cut from the same mold and what might work for one person, may not work for another.

What is lube anyway?

Lube is a fluid used during sexual acts to reduce friction and make intercourse less painful and/or more pleasurable.

Different types of lubes:

There are several different basic types of lubes that you may find beneficial to suit your needs.

  • Water
  • Oil
  • Silicone
  • Hybrid

Water based lube is a great choice for those using toys and condoms as the water base makeup shouldn’t break down condoms or toys. It also tends to be a bit easier on those with sensitive skin and doesn’t tend to be as sticky as other options. One thing not so great is that it usually has be reapplied over and over to remain slick and provide the level of lubrication you need.

  • Silicone lube feels like silk on the skin and stays wet a lot longer than water based. They are also safe on condoms and help any sex session keep going without a lot of reapplications. It’s important to use caution when using toys, as this lube can break down silicone-based toys over time and making them less sanitary. A water-based lube is best when using a toy.

  • Oil based lubes are sometimes preferred because these lubes can be made with natural ingredients like coconut oil or almond oil. Organic coconut oil is a great oil-based lube that can be bought at the grocery store. It’s not only nice and slick, but it also tastes and smells great. The caution to practice with this one is if condoms are used. It can increase the chance of a condom breaking and can permanently stain sheets and clothing.

  • A hybrid lube is one made of both water and silicone giving you the best of both worlds. They are extra slippery and may contain just the right amount of silicone to be used with both condoms and toys safely, but it’s important to check each brands fine print just in case.

Ingredients:

It’s also important to check labels on lubes and to do your research on ingredients.

Things like parabens, which can cause reproductive and endocrine harm and chlorhexidine, which is a topical antiseptic and can disrupt vaginal flora.

It’s best to search out safer ingredients such as aloe, vitamin e, flaxseed and even CBD.

Flavors and scents:

One thing to be careful of is flavored and scented lubes. These lubes may contain glycerin and/or sorbitol as well as artificial fragrances. These ingredients not only help these lubes stay slippery but can also give it that sweet flavor and smell. The downside to this is that they are basically sugars and that can not only be super sticky but can promote yeast infections. The artificial fragrances can damage sensitive skin and, in some cases, can be harmful to reproductive organs.

When searching for the perfect slippery liquid to enhance a sexy session, be sure to shop at a reputable website or store.

The most important thing to remember is to have fun!
